Volkswagen was the most registered full electric car brand in Finland in 2021 and the second best-selling passenger car brand. Volkswagen had 2 411 all-electric cars registered, with a market share of 23.7%. With this share, Volkswagen was the clear market leader in the Finnish all-electric car market in 2021. 10 081 new Volkswagen passenger cars were registered, with a market share of 10.5% (excluding motorhomes).

“In 2021, the entire automotive sector was struggling with the effects of both the pandemic and the global component shortage. However, Volkswagen came through the year very well. Volkswagen’s all-electric car range became a favourite among Finns and demand for more traditional combustion engine models remained strong. Going into 2022, we are confident that our range will grow again with new all-electric models. The Volkswagen ID.5 and ID.5 GTX will arrive in Finland and I am particularly looking forward to the arrival of the new all-electric car concept ID.BUZZ,” says Kari-Mikael Järvenpää, Acting Director of Volkswagen Passenger Cars at K-Auto.

As in previous years, Volkswagen’s most popular model in 2021 was the Volkswagen Golf with 1 790 registrations (17.8% of the total Volkswagen range). The Volkswagen ID.4 all-electric car came second with 1 428 (14.2%) registrations and the Tiguan, Volkswagen’s popular SUV, came third with 1 379 (13.7%) registrations. The smaller Volkswagen Polo came fourth with 1 205 (12.0%) registrations.

In 2021, Volkswagen’s smaller model range was renewed with the launch of the modernised Volkswagen Polo and the all-new Volkswagen Taigo. The Volkswagen T-Roc models were also presented in updated versions and will arrive in Finland in early 2022. No delivery delays are expected for these models either and availability of the cars is good.

In the Volkswagen all-electric car range, the most popular model of the year was the Volkswagen ID.4 SUV with 1428 registrations and the other Volkswagen all-electric cars registered in 2021 were the ID.3 with 746 units and the e-up! In 2021, 61.7% of all registrations in the entire Volkswagen range were petrol cars, 23.9% were all-electric cars, 13.6% were diesel cars and 0.8% were gas cars. Plug-in hybrids accounted for 12.0% of Volkswagen registrations. Automatic gearboxes accounted for 86.7% and manual gearboxes for 13.3%.
